Well, Links was in fact my third Blake's Seven fan story, and dealt with...
Huh? What? Oh, I see. Ah.
Okay, this is where it gets embarrassing. I fully intended to put a links page on this site, full of all the cool stuff I had found and wanted others to share. Until I actually started to think about it, try to list all the links I would want to put in...
Two facts rapidly became apparent. One was that if I surfed for my whole life I would never do more than scratch the surface of the Web. There's just too much good stuff out there. Did you know there's an entire Webring devoted to pages on Jack Vance? I found a page the other night where someone has done some beautiful landscapes using the next version of Vistapro, with shadows and buildings and everything. The Enid's got its own site. No matter how many links I crammed on to my page, I would never capture everything. I might even lead people away from really good stuff.
The other was that links pages are really unnecessary. You're never more than three pages away from whatever you want, if one of those pages is the right search engine. If you want to find a page dealing with something I've mentioned, just point at Google or Startpage, type in the appropriate phrase and away you go. (I will admit that Annie's remarks on links pages also influenced me in this regard...)
And the third thing...all right, three facts rapidly became apparent. The third was that in the minimal surfing I had done to find the abovementioned sites, I had been online for between one and two hours a night, which in our current economic situation is just plain stupid. By putting a links page on my site, I would be encouraging the same kind of random Webwanderlust and boosting my friends' phone bills to an unnecessary degree. Moreover, anyone who might be accessing the site from work would be tying up the corporate resources of a major business concern or even a government office, and I couldn't sleep easily in my bed knowing that I had caused that. I would be too busy laughing my head off. (This paragraph has now been largely overtaken by technology, but the expenditure of time is still an issue, so I'm leaving it in.)
So, sorry and all that, but there is no Links page on this Website. There are the links to the good people who supplied my graphics and some of my software, there's the Bardic Ring link on the filk page...and that, said Zander, is that.
