The Countess, my beloved wife, has been writing stories since she was very small. Most of them have been about the same character. The stories have grown deeper and more involved as she has grown up, but the character and his universe have remained remarkably consistent.
Mershane Bringer, otherwise known as Mer, has been described as a "spaced-out transsexual alien prince." In fact, he isn't transsexual, he's only spaced-out some of the time, and he's half human (quite legitimately, for you science buffs). He lives on the Fringes of human space, torn between worlds and social strata, a gutter rat who consorts with nobility, a smuggler who breaks the law to feed his people, a lover whose language has no word for "love." These are the stories not only of him, but of the people who surround him and interact with him. Here you will meet healers, whores, musicians, magicians, soldiers, pirates, archaeologists, gangsters, and probably rapturous trollops to boot (but don't boot them when Security's around: the Scats get spiteful about that sort of thing).
And it all starts in a bookshop...
Now, thanks to the miracle of self-publishing, we can bring you the best of the Mershane stories in book form. Just check out the Lulu storefront box on the home page. Or click on the picture below.

Your humble fake artist has slaved all night (well, for about half an hour) creating a selection of small but perfectly formed banners, in the hope that some of you will take one and put it on your websites, with a link back to this page. We can't afford radio, telly or sides of buses, so the only way we can spread the word about these books is with your help.
